Juan Castro Blanco National Park is an excellent place for bird watching; specially for spotting the famous Resplendent Quetzal, (Pharomachrus Mocinno) distinguished for its majestically colored feathers. Just an hour and a half from La Fortuna, through the beautiful plains of San Carlos, we will come upon this marvelous place surrounded by cloud forests where the majority of the main rivers of the northern region begin. Our naturalist guides, personalized service, and the unique scenery of this area make a perfect combination. Many of the prominent rivers of the San Carlos Valley and the Atlantic region originate in the aquifers of this National Park. The total area of the park is of 14,250 hectares (approximately 35,600 acres) and it was created by decree in 1992. 60% of the total area of the park is covered by primary forest and the rest consists of patches of secondary forest. We will have the opportunity to visit the lake found in an ancient volcanic crater which has several importance difference from the lakes of other regions. This tour will end with a delicious lunch, followed by the ride back to you La Fortuna hotel.
