Join our Shakespeare London walking tour to find out about one of the most famous writers that the world has ever known! 400 years after his death, William Shakespeare is still considered to be the greatest English speaking author and poet of all time.

The Shakespeare London walking tour starts outside The Old Vic theatre and focuses on the area around the River Thames on London’s Southbank. This would have been the epicentre of London’s theatrical life when Shakespeare lived here. Our 2 hour walking tour will take you to areas that Shakespeare would have frequented, showing you the few remnants of Shakespeare’s London that have survived and can still be seen today.

You will walk at a leisurely pace, pausing regularly to take photos and hear anecdotes that link locations with William Shakespeare. You will see theatres where his 37 plays have been performed. We will consider the conspiracy theory: did Shakespeare actually write all of his plays? And provide you with evidence to support our take on the argument. You will also find out about the man himself – who was William Shakespeare? Where did he come from? Who were his friends and family and what else did he do?

A Shakespeare London walking tour simply wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Globe Theatre. So on the tour you will pass the renowned Globe Theatre, learn about the theatre today and find out about Shakespeare’s involvement with the original theatre.

During the tour your expert guide will tell you about life in 16th and 17th century London and explain how Tudor London inspired and influenced Shakespeare and crept into his plays. Your guide will also show you what remains of Tudor or medieval London explaining their link with the great Bard.

The tour will be enhanced by relevant extracts from Shakespeare’s plays, including quotes from Antony and Cleopatra, As You Like It, Hamlet, Henry V, Richard II and Richard III. Additionally the tour will visit film locations from the 1996 film Richard III staring Sir Ian McKellen and Jim Broadbent.

The last location on the tour is Southwark location, which has strong links with Shakespeare and his fellow actors. From here it is a short walk to the bustling Borough Market or to London Bridge underground station.
